Workshops

The Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) boasts modern workshop facilities in which you can test out architectural and design concepts. Located on the ground floor of the school, the workshops constitute the core of AHO’s approach to the fields of architecture and design.

Training and supervision in the workshops

Training

The workshops organise courses for new students. Participation is a prerequisite for gaining access to the workshops. Others who need to use the workshops but who have not completed basic training (international students, lecturers, etc.) can enquire with the workshops to make an appointment for training.
If permitted by capacity, certain specialist courses in subjects such as welding and turning may also be available. Such courses are subject to separate agreement with the workshop in question. During periods of high workshop load, the opportunities for delivering such training will be limited.

Supervision

The main duty of workshop staff in teaching is to supervise students in order to ensure appropriate use of the workshops, material choices, processing and machinery.
In order to get the most out of supervision, it is important that students arrive prepared. We expect students to have prepared technical drawings or sketches with suggested materials and dimensions. During periods of high demand, there may be limited time available for individual supervision.

Six shop foremen have been appointed and are responsible for the different workshops at AHO. Each shop foreman has their own office adjacent to their workshop and a communal dining room can be found near the wood and plastic workshops.
