Incident reporting for the workshops
Form used to report incidents, injuries and accidents in the workshops. This form is also used to report machine damage or personal injuries.
Tidying
All students are required to tidy up after themselves immediately after completing their work. If satisfactory orderliness is not maintained in the workshops, the power supply to the machines must be interrupted and tidying must take place before ordinary activities can resume.
Use of protective equipment in the workshops
The use of approved hearing protectors is compulsory in several of the workshops at AHO. When working in or visiting noisy spaces, you need to wear hearing protectors to prevent hearing damage. Hearing protectors and safety goggles are available to borrow and can be found near the entry door to each workshop. The use of safety goggles is compulsory when such use is indicated on equipment and safety goggles must always be used when performing work in the workshops.
If you prefer to purchase your own hearing protectors, look for attenuation class 1 or 2 – both are approved for use in AHO workshops.
Protective equipment such as dust masks and disposable gloves is also available for sale at the workshops.
First-aid equipment in the workshops
- First-aid equipment is located near a sink in each workshop. Each workshop is equipped with the necessary first-aid equipment to stop bleeding, cool burns and rinse eyes and bandages and plasters are also available.
- Notify a shop foreman in the event of accidents or injuries so that any necessary preventive measures can be implemented.
- If the injury was caused by a machine fault, immediately label the machine with “Out of order”.
- Workshop staff can provide basic first-aid and ensure that the injured person is seen by the out-of-hours doctors’ service if required.
