Graphic Production of the Thesis – ETN Grafisk

Once the evaluation committee has submitted a positive recommendation and the thesis has been deemed worthy of public defense, the graphic production process can begin. ETN Grafisk prints doctoral theses for the Oslo School of Architecture and Design

Approved thesis

The printed thesis must be identical to the version submitted for evaluation. The only exception is the correction of minor, formal errors.

  • All changes must be listed in an errata list.
  • It is not permitted to replace articles that were published after submission.

Ordering print

The order is sent to kundeservice@etn.no

Before printing can begin, the candidate must submit an order to ETN Grafisk, with the PhD coordinator copied. The order must include:

  • the candidate’s name and the title of the thesis
  • date of the public defense and total number of pages
  • number of color pages
  • additional copies (beyond the 50 copies covered by AHO)
  • request for a physical proof print (yes / no)
  • any comments (short free text)

Cover

ETN Grafisk prepares the thesis cover from material sent by the candidate. The candidate must send the material specified in the document Cover Requirements in a Word file and the image file kundeservice@etn.no. The PhD coordinator must be copied in on the email. Allow sufficient time so that the cover can be completed before submission for printing.

ISBN, ISSN and con-text number

ISBN, ISSN and con-text numbers must be included in the colophon and on the cover. The candidate receives this information from the PhD coordinator and the AHO Library.

File delivery and preparation for print

The files are sent to kundeservice@etn.no

ETN Grafisk receives the print‑ready PDF file of the interior (main text) from the candidate and prepares the documents for production. At the same time, the candidate submits the errata list, which ETN Grafisk prints as a separate document. In total two files are delivered: interior and errata. The candidate copies the PhD coordinator on the file delivery.

File requirements:

  • all interior pages delivered together as one PDF file
  • images and figures in vector format or minimum 300 dpi
  • all fonts must be embedded

ETN Grafisk:

  • runs an automatic technical check of the print files before production starts
  • provides feedback if the files contain errors
  • sends the print file to the candidate for review and approval before production

Errata list

If you correct formal errors after submission to the committee, an errata list must be prepared.

  • the list must include all corrections
  • the list is printed as a separate document by ETN Grafisk. The candidate must send it to the PhD coordinator at the same time as the thesis is sent to the printer
  • if you write a preface that was not included in the version submitted to the committee, this must also be noted in the errata list
  • you may not make changes of an academic nature or to the actual language, such as adding or removing paragraphs or similar

Proof print

The candidate may order a physical proof print before the entire print run is produced.

The proof print allows the candidate to:

  • check order and completeness
  • assess image quality and general print quality

Note:

  • only technical adjustments are permitted
  • the proof print is covered by AHO

Printing and print run

  • AHO covers a standard print run of 50 copies
  • costs are covered by AHO within the established rate
  • any overruns are covered by the candidate
  • the candidate receives 25 copies (included in the 50)
  • additional copies may be ordered by the candidate at their own expense
  • the thesis should be fully printed no later than two weeks before the public defense
  • the candidate is personally responsible for checking all files before submission
