Background and experience
Diogo Valério is a designer, design leader and educator working at the intersection of interaction design, technology and human behaviour. He is VP Product Design at CatalystOne, where he leads the product design organisation and works across product strategy, design practice and the development of digital products.
Diogo has been affiliated with the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) since 2016. He teaches Interaction Design at bachelor’s and master’s levels and has served as course coordinator for Design for Digital Products, previously Screens, which constitutes the second semester of the Master’s programme in Interaction Design. His teaching focuses on designing digital products and interactive systems, with particular attention to interaction design, accessibility, human AI interaction and emerging technologies.
His teaching is directly informed by extensive industry experience in designing and developing digital products, translating human needs and business objectives into products that can be realised in practice, and leading and developing design teams. He has worked across product strategy, interaction design, design systems and emerging technologies, bringing a perspective that connects design practice with the organisational, technological and business realities of digital product development. He holds a Master’s degree in Design and Visual Communication from IADE in Lisbon.
His interests include human behaviour, Gestalt psychology, human computer interaction, interaction design and emerging forms of interaction with artificial intelligence. His work explores how technology shapes human behaviour and how designers can create digital systems that are not only useful and usable, but also understandable, accessible and meaningful.
At AHO, he is particularly interested in the relationship between design practice and education, and in how designers can develop the ability to move between conceptual thinking, critical reflection and the practical development of digital products. He is also interested in how new technologies, particularly AI, are changing the nature of interaction and creating new questions for design practice and education.
