Making Fashion Quality Transparent

By Sofie Frydenlund Slettemoen

Under the upcoming EU Digital Product Passport regulation, clothing will be required to carry a QR code with transparent product data. This project explores how information on durability and quality can be made meaningful and useful for consumers. Because its not about giving users more data but the right data

The Un Environment Program reports that people today buy 60% more clothing since 2000 and wear them for only half as long. While fashion consumption has never been higher, awareness of sustainability has also increased . According to the Nordic Consumerism Index 8/10 wants to take better choices when it comes to sustainability. And say they are willing to change their habits. But 8/10 don’t know what the better choice is.

Select is a digital tool that helps users evaluate clothing quality based on their personal priorities. Not everything cheap is bad, and not everything expensive is good. And this app helps you tell the difference. It shows you if something is actually well-made — not just well-marketed. User set their priorities and by scanning a garment’s product tag, users receive an instant pass/fail overview, with the option to explore deeper details about the quality. The tool draws on verified supply chain and quality control data — including durability tests, fiber composition, and production methods — to deliver personalized, trustworthy insights. In doing so, it supports more intentional choices, helping people choose fewer, better, and longer-lasting garments.
