Overview of institutions participating in the Erasmus+ programme:
What can you do with Erasmus+?
The Erasmus+ programme promotes academic and cultural exchange, and provides valuable international experience that strengthens both academic competence and personal development.
Through Erasmus+ you can:
- Study at a partner university in Europe for 2 to 12 months, with full academic recognition at your home institution.
- Undertake a placement abroad in a company, organisation or institution, and gain relevant work experience within your field of study. At AHO, you may apply for support for a placement abroad after completing your degree, as a so-called “recent graduate”.
- Take part in Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) – short international courses that combine physical and digital participation.
- Receive financial support through an Erasmus+ grant, which covers part of the travel and living expenses during your stay.Hva kan du gjøre med Erasmus+?
Erasmus+ grant – financial support for exchange in Europe
Erasmus+ provides financial support to students who go on exchange or undertake a placement in Europe. The grant is intended to help cover additional costs associated with staying abroad, such as accommodation, food and travel, and makes it easier for students to gain international experience.
What does the Erasmus+ grant cover?
The grant is not intended to cover all expenses, but is meant to supplement ordinary student loans and any other income. The amount varies depending on:
- Host country – countries with higher living costs provide a higher grant.
- Type of stay – placements usually receive a higher grant than study stays.
- Duration – the grant is calculated per month, with a fixed amount for each day you are on exchange.
Payment
The grant is usually paid in two instalments:
- Before departure: 90% of the total amount is paid once you have signed the grant agreement and submitted the necessary documents.
- After return: The remaining amount is paid once you have submitted the final report and documentation of the completed stay.
Payments are made through your educational institution, and you will receive information about the amounts and dates directly from the International Office.
How to receive the Erasmus+ grant – step by step
All students going to an institution with which AHO has an Erasmus+ agreement will receive an Erasmus+ grant, but there are a few steps you must complete in order to receive it.
Here is an overview of what you need to do:
1. Learning Agreement (LA) – before departure
This document outlines which courses you will take at the host institution and how they will be recognised as part of your degree. It must be signed by:
- You as the student
- Your home institution
- The host institution
Note: Some institutions require you to submit the Learning Agreement already when applying.
Deadline: The deadlines at AHO for submitting the Learning Agreement are 10 August for the autumn semester and 10 January for the spring semester.

2. Grant Agreement (GA) – before departure
This is the agreement between you and your home institution regarding the Erasmus+ grant. It is sent by the International Office in June/December. It includes:
- Duration of the stay
- Grant amount
- Terms of payment
You must sign and return this agreement before you can receive the first instalment.
Deadline: 10 August for the autumn semester and 10 January for the spring semester.
3. Confirmation of Arrival – Upon arrival
Once you have arrived at the host institution, you must have your stay officially confirmed. This is done via a form completed by the host institution, which students must then send to their home institution by email.
Deadline: Within one week of arrival.
4. Grant payment
The grant is usually paid in two instalments:
- First instalment (90%): Once the Grant Agreement has been signed and the Confirmation of Arrival has been submitted.
- Final instalment (10%): After you have submitted the final report and the Confirmation of Departure upon return.
Grant rates
The grant rate may vary from year to year, and the amount of the grant depends on whether you are going to a high-cost or low-cost country. Grant rates are calculated on a day-to-day basis. This means that if you are on exchange, for example, for 3 months and 10 days, you will receive a grant for exactly those days.
Study mobility (2 to 12 months)
Rates for 2026:
- €460 per month for Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria.
- €410 per month for other European countries participating in Erasmus+.
Traineeship mobility
Rates for 2026:
- €680 per month for Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Sweden.

Additional grant
Erasmus+ aims to provide equal opportunities for all. Students who require special arrangements may receive an additional grant of €250 per month. The additional grant may be relevant for students who have:
- Children under 18 or other caregiving responsibilities
- Disabilities and/or chronic illnesses
- Refugee status
- Belong to indigenous peoples or national minorities
Contact international-office@aho.no if you are unsure whether you qualify for the additional grant. Students receiving the additional grant must sign a declaration (“Declaration on Honour”) confirming that they belong to one (or more) of the above categories.
Note: Random checks may be carried out.
Travel grant
A travel grant is provided to students who do not receive travel support from Lånekassen, for example, students travelling to institutions in the Nordic countries.
Green travel grant
Erasmus+ aims to help reduce the climate footprint, and students who choose environmentally friendly travel during their exchange may apply for a green travel grant.
If you choose to travel by train or bus to and/or from your host university, you qualify for the green travel grant. Note that travel by car or boat generally does not qualify as green travel, unless electric vehicles are used.

Traineeships after graduation
Students at AHO may receive Erasmus+ support for traineeships after completing their studies.
The criteria are:
- The traineeship must be completed within the first year after graduation
- You must apply while you are still an active student at AHO
Note: You must have secured a traineeship before applying for the Erasmus+ grant.
AHO has a limited pool of funding for this purpose, and approval depends on the number of applicants and the annual funding available.
Deadline: Applications are due 1 June for the autumn semester and 1 December for the spring semester. Support can be granted for up to 6 months.
