Urban Forests & Climate Adaptation
We’re living in a time of climate change, heading toward a temperature rise of 3°C.* If we want to continue living in cities, we need to adapt—and Urban Forests are central to that adaptation.
With a warming climate, precipitation is increasing, and it’s already up 20% in Norway. As climate change intensifies, Oslo faces significant challenges, especially with flooding, accelerating the need for resilient urban forests. The only way to adapt is by giving more space to the blue and green.
Oslo’s hidden creeks can guide us to where action is needed—beginning right outside our doorstep. AHO sits at the lowest point of Uelandsgate/Maridalsveien, atop the old Akersbekken stream, making it both flood-prone and ideal for a blue-green connection for the start of the 2 km Ueland Urban Forest.

The rooted resilience of Urban Forests reduces heat, buffers against shifting weather patterns, and, just as importantly, brings people closer to nature, strengthening our bond with the natural environment.
Our existence depends entirely on nature, though we often fail to realise to what extent. Our perception of nature has, through the industrialisation, transitioned from a spiritual connection to a mechanical one, leading us to believe we’re independent of nature.
But we can not view cities as separate from nature. Instead, they should be seen as dynamic ecosystems, cities full of nature, where humans and nature can coexist, where nature is part of our everyday life, our consciousness and our stories.
