For game designers, engaging a player’s curiosity is key to crafting compelling narratives and experiences, and this project aims to bring that knowledge and playful outlook to interaction design.
In interaction design today, methods that involve game design often focus on rewarding productivity and fails to actively engage users.
Through quantitative exploration, I have tested curious interactions and analyzed their effect to refine the design concepts. Out of ten concepts, I chose the six most successful ones to become part of my proposed design solution: an early-stage UI design pattern library.
Along with its research basis, “Unlocked” could serve as a tool and guide for designers, showing them how to unlock intrigue and wonder in interfaces.
Much like how thoughtfully designed physical spaces can serve as playgrounds, virtual environments can also be crafted to invite exploration. Although it may seem counterintuitive to prioritize playfulness over optimization, designing for curiosity ultimately enriches the user experience, offering meaningful and pleasurable interactions beyond mere functionality.
Who knows what we might discover?
