The aim is to preserve cultural heritage by embedding its visual language into a modern, functional design that serves a purpose in a contemporary living space.

The project’s goal is to show people that incorporating objects inspired by folklore may easily visually blend into their homes while simultaneously standing out as unique statement pieces, not in a kitsch way. This ensures that a part of history that is slowly dying out is kept present every day, not just on special occasions, and offers a meaningful way to reconnect with one’s roots and maintain cultural identity.

The project employed a comprehensive design research and development methodology. This began with an initial research phase comprising of a field excursion to inform the visual language. Supplemented by extensive library and online research into traditional textiles. This investigative work directly informed the subsequent conceptualization stage, which involved iterative sketching and concept development. The final design was refined through prototyping and material testing, utilizing various model techniques and material media to evaluate form and structure.

Final delivery includes a collection of ambient lights that combine opposites – warm and cozy feeling with a rigorous structure. They will be showcased through volume models and renderings.
