Dream Theater is an innovative proposal with the intention of enriching Oslo's cultural frame.
In 1899 the Nationaltheater was built in rococo and baroque, with the aim of uniting our young nation and to grant our capital a pearl to visit. However the splendour of the theatre, recessed over time. The theatre transformed to partly house the institution behind the curtains. Resulting in cramped working spaces for office and impractical solutions for production.
Today these programs are still party running inside Nationaltheater while having the need of offices across the street, a stage in Torshov, a warehouse in Moss and a theatre production in Alna. After the long awaited modernisation and renovation, another scene will have to be outsourced.
What started out as a question of a temporary solution, turned into something permanent, in a place situated with a visual view for traffic arriving to the capital by trains and cars, at the end of Bjørvika.

The Dream Theater revives the Nationaltheater back to what it originally was built for; a theater for the nation. The rich culture of Norway deserves more than a temporary solution. When the Nationaltheater moves back to it's original intention, Dream Theater shortens the travel distance for storage and props as well as it facilitates the two external stages and administration. It rounds off the promenade by the harbour. It extends the park into the courtyard inviting visitors of Middelalderparken to a place of recharge. It combines the north with the south as well as the center of Oslo with the east of the city. The institution adds cultural value to the public in a play, a costume exhibition, a garden and a view. By combining all forces Dream Theater invites people the opportunity to understand the value of the imaginary and encourage them to take part in it.
