This diploma project demonstrates how the adaptive reuse of vacant buildings can breathe new life into underutilized urban areas. By aligning Fotografihuset’s mission with Bryn’s urban renewal plans, this transformation not only provides a home for Fotografihuset but also establishes Bryn as a dynam-ic cultural and social hub.

The building includes public spaces such as a café/bar, co-working areas, and an atelier, making it a gathering point for Bryn in addition to its main features, the galleries and exhibition rooms. Additional elements in the park, such as a skatepark, forest park, and picnic area, aim to create a vibrant meeting place for diverse groups, fostering year-round activity.

The primary goal of the project was to transform these buildings into a space dedicated to photogra-phy, where visitors have the opportunity to experience art by immersing themselves in a carefully cu-rated atmosphere. The galleries were designed as engaging spaces, with artificial light and music cre-ating a unique ambiance. Cortén steel shutters and sliding doors in the Photo Museum allow rooms to shift between complete darkness and natural light. Double-height spaces and openings in walls and ceilings provide glimpses into the next gallery.

Ultimately, the project showcases how architecture can create meaningful spaces that connect people, celebrate creativity, and contribute to the city’s evolving identity.
