This diploma project is an accommodation for long-term sick children and their families as an alternative to a regular patient hotel or parent accommodation. The family house is situated at Gaustad and serves as an extension of Rikshospitalet paediatric ward. The intention of the building is not that the treatment is supposed to happen here, but it is an external facility for families to stay closer together and meet families in the same situation in a home like environment.
While developing the project, I focused on establishing what is private, shared, and common and how these spaces, as well as the exterior surroundings, are connected both physically and visually. Creating a house for community, simultaneously attending to the needs of the individual families.
