Unused Assets

By Vilde Wøien

Unused Assets is a transformation project, focused on the threshold of the private, the shared and the public. Explored through a cooperative with different apartment typologies, a public first floor and a community centre. The thesis explores the question whether or not the 119 empty municipality owned buildings can be used to aid a non-profit housing sector in Oslo; treating housing as a common good instead of a commodity.

The municipality of Oslo own 119 buildings that are left unused and without future plans. One of these buildings are Trondheimsgata 132 at Carl Berner. Trondheimsgata 132 is chosen as a test lab to explore different ways of shared living; to investigate what shared architecture an existing building can inhabit.
