Project description
LOCALCARE will investigate how municipalities in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark can work comprehensively with age-friendly living environments and health and care services.
In the Nordic countries, an aging population is leading to increased pressure on welfare services, and thus to a debate about how municipalities can ensure sustainable services. In response, the health authorities in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark have indicated that municipalities must plan for more home services, local care, and age-friendly urban development. Many municipalities have already begun to move away from institution-based care to home-based care. This, however, requires a far more holistic approach from the municipalities, and cross-sectoral coordination between municipal departments for health and care, planning, housing, transport, and green spaces. Today, this often happens piecemeal and without coordination. There is therefore a need for more knowledge across disciplines.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with six municipalities and a reference group, and contributes to developing a new interdisciplinary research field with a Nordic focus.
The results of the project will provide concrete tools that can be used by the municipalities so that they can work strategically to create high-quality living environments that enable health and care services at home.
