Adapted Studies

Do you have a disability or health condition that makes studying more challenging?

You may then be entitled to individual arrangements for your study day and/or examinations. On this website, you will find information about individual arrangements.

Arrangements are intended to compensate for the disadvantages your disability entails and cannot lead to a reduction in the academic requirements.

Examples of conditions that may form the basis for individual arrangements for adapted studies

  • Reduced physical functioning
  • Hearing impairment
  • Visual impairment
  • Dyslexia
  • Mental health challenges
  • Psychosocial difficulties

Examples of support measures for adapted studies in daily academic life

  • Access to a rest room
  • Reduced study progression, e.g., taking only one course per semester (note, however, that some courses at AHO have an uneven distribution of credits)
  • Audio recording of lectures (provided this is feasible)
  • Informing the academic staff: Do you want the course coordinators to be aware of your support needs?
  • Opportunity to present early (e.g., if you have a physical condition that tends to worsen as the day progresses)

Examples of support measures for adapted studies during examinations

  • Extended time
  • Rest and breastfeeding breaks
  • Separate or quiet seating (for in-person exams)

How to apply for adapted studies support

You must apply for support well in advance, as some processing time is required.

Fill out the application form for adapted studies and upload confirmation from a doctor or qualified professional in the form. Medical certificates contain sensitive information and should therefore not be sent by email.

The documentation must include the following information:

  • Your full name, date of birth, and personal identification number
  • A description of the challenges your disability presents
  • Duration (do you have permanent or temporary support needs?)
  • Any recommended support measures
  • Signature from a doctor or qualified professional
