What is cheating?
Cheating or plagiarising in a written assignment is a violation of academic integrity. Assignments are independent work, and you must account for what is you own thoughts and ideas and what is borrowed from others. You are expected to familiarise with AHO's guidelines for referring and citing. If cheating or plagiarising, or attempts at this, is discovered, severe consequences follow.
Examples of what is considered cheating or plagiarising on an exam, a test, or a written assignment:
- To have unauthorised aids accessible during the exam
- To represent another's work as one's own, either partially or entirely
- To cite sources or in other ways use sources in written assignments without sufficient citing
- To use AI without citing or explaining how/what parts are discussed/shaped with the help of AI
- To hand in an exam that previously has been delivered as an exam delivery at AHO or at other Universities or Colleges
- Unregulated cooperation between students
- To act against the current laws or regulations regarding the exam in question
Is cooperation cheating?
You may discuss an assignment orally with others; both student and others. But unregulated cooperation with other student during an exam or assignment that leads to textual similarities in the delivery or that gives one or both students benefits in the exam situation is considered cheating.
If you pay someone to do your exam or if you contribute or help another student to cheat during an exam, it is regarded as cheating.
Facilitating for another student to cheat contradicts with the regulations. You should act with caution when lending out your delivery or written work with other students.
Plagiarism Check
AHO uses a plagiarism checker on digital assignments. It runs checks against websites, databases, and other delivered assignments. We also use several services to reveal unregulated use of AI.
What is cheating in a school exam?
Use of aids is considered cheating, unless they are specified as permitted in the exam. Having aids accessible, even if not used, may also be considered cheating.
Consequences of cheating and plagiarism
If cheating, or attempts at cheating, is discovered the consequences can be annulation of the exam and exclusion from AHO as well as loss of the right to sign up for exams at other Colleges and Universities in Norway for up to 1 year.
Citation Styles at AHO
You may use either Harvard or Chicago as your citing systems in written assignments.
More resources on citation can be found through the library.
Use of AI
You may not use AI to produce your delivery for you. However, you may use AI as a tool during the assignment, as long as you cite where AI has been used as a discussion tool or which parts of the delivery are created using AI.
The criteria for citing AI are the same as for other citations.
