Fields of Expertise and Research

Our institute blends historical and societal insights with artistic, experimental, and forward-thinking perspectives. Through studio-based project work, students develop their own professional identities, while quality, relevance, and sustainability remain central to our teaching and research.

The institute hosts Oslo Centre for Critical Architectural Studies (OCCAS), a leading research center for critical architectural history studies, along with several smaller research groups and international collaboration programs focusing on cultural heritage, traditional and innovative material technologies, architectural pedagogy, daylight, and housing development.
