Workshop Theme
This workshop explores the intersection of contemporary food culture, spatial interrogation and performative context. Taking cues from the relationship between material and place, students will engage in collaborative research, questioning the way we should consume food, material experimentation of common objects, and the design of a performative dinner.
Each group interrogates different temporal and sensory layers of how we cook, dine, and design the spaces and objects that shape consumption. Material becomes narrative; utensils become gestures; and dinner becomes performance.
The architecture workshop is part of the AHO’s 80th Anniversary celebration.
Location
The workshop will take place in Oslo, at the Oslo School of Architecture campus. The large and open interior of the construction hall is our site, and will allow participants to collaborate on spatial experiments and production. Tools and materials will be provided.
Workshop Leaders
Johanna Roth (ETH, UDK) works on the topic of spatial identity as a form of cultural communication — particularly at the intersection of architecture, food, art, and culture. Her work explores how context shapes atmosphere and meaning, across varying scales and durations. She teaches at the ETH on the question of contemporary housing at the Chair of Jan de Vylder at the ETH Zurich.
Hanna Birkeland Bergh (AAM, AHO) and Jack Dalla Santa (AAM) both teach, and are founders of the architecture practice Dalla Santa / Birkeland. They work between Stockholm and Oslo, mainly with projects within existing buildings and of discarded materials - with a particular interest for the topic of domestic spaces, across varying scales and programs.
Program
The participants can expect an intense workshop week of conversation, material experimentation and production, shared with invited guests and lecturers. It will lead up to two Final Performative Dinners within the built space on 14th and 15th of August.
Participants
The workshop is designed for Architecture, Landscape and Design students and is open to all. We prioritise making it equitable to all applicants.
To help the Summer School teaching team fund the workshop, there will be a 150€ attendance fee. The fee also includes communal meals during the workshop.
Participants will be required to coordinate their own travels and accommodation. We will be of assistance to coordinate affordable accomodation.
By submitting the application, you commit to paying the fee if you are selected.
