Not Just Roads (2021) is a research documentary by Nitin Bathla that explores the profound urban transformation currently reshaping India. At the center of the film is the Bharatmala project, an ambitious national highway program that aims to connect the country through thousands of kilometers of new roads.
Beyond infrastructure, the documentary highlights the social, ecological, and political dimensions of this transformation, raising questions about who benefits, who is displaced, and what kind of future is being built.
The event is free and open to all.
The event is organized by the PhD Programme in collaboration with the Institute of Urbanism and Landscape.
Nitin Bathla is a Zürich-based scholar and practitioner working at the intersection of urbanization, the environment, and society, bridging the disciplines of urban studies, ecology, geography, and sociology.
