Circular, low-processed clay-based materials – with their minimal CO2 emissions – have the potential to replace high-emission, high-strength materials in numerous building components. Yet, these materials are rarely available in the Norwegian market. How can we change that?

In the Oslo area, clean, clay-rich materials constitute a significant portion of construction and demolition waste. Every year, millions of tonnes of this waste end up in landfills. However, a substantial fraction can be repurposed as valuable building material, freeing up landfill space and reducing the need to extract virgin resources.

During the seminar, you will discover how clay-rich materials from local waste can be transformed into valuable resources. We will explore unburnt clay’s role as a natural binder – produced without high-temperature processes and the associated CO2 emissions – and showcase its versatile, reversible properties that pave the way for circular building practices and zero-emission buildings.
