Acoustic Tectonics - Synergies between Architecture, Sound and Computation

The Institute of Architecture at AHO invites you to a guest lecture by Professor Isak Worre Foged. The talk is open to all who are interested.

Simulation of sound

Acoustic simulation, Bagsværd Church by Jørn Utzon.

About the lecture

Sound plays a direct role in shaping how humans understand and live in the world. Architecture modulates sound and creates life-enriching phenomena, influences our well-being, learning abilities and work conditions.

The presentation will focus on the fundamentals of acoustics, discuss the role of Architecture to produce unique acoustic experiences, demonstrate simulation methods and show experiment-driven research projects aimed to explore how we can understand and design Acoustic Tectonics in Architecture.

About the lecturer

Isak Worre Foged is a Professor at the Institute of Architecture and Space at The Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. He is an Architect with a PhD as well as Civil Engineer.

As the Center leader and founder of CEMAS - Center for Material Studies, he is currently building a new exciting research environment including architects, designers, and engineers with affiliated material and computational scientists and psychologists.

The research group investigates across material and structural scales, focusing on material compositions through qualitative and quantitative methods.

Their research aims to understand natural and constructed relations between materials, environments and humans, with a particular focus on analyzing and characterizing materials for thermal and acoustic phenomena and performances.
