Background and experience

Rachel Troye is Professor of Visual Communication at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) and Head of D-box, a national centre for innovation in the public sector and a strategic collaboration between AHO, BI and DOGA. She served as Head of the Institute of Design for over ten years before becoming Pro-Rector for Education in 2023.

She has taught and supervised students at all levels at AHO, including in visual communication and design management, and follows the master's students through pre-diploma and diploma. She has also previously taught at several other Norwegian design schools.

Before moving into higher education, Rachel had a 20-year career in the design industry in Switzerland and Norway, responsible for complex, interdisciplinary projects in visual identity and branding for national and international clients such as BMW and Flytoget (The Airport Express Train).

As Head of the Institute of Design, she led two comprehensive curriculum revisions with close involvement from industry, alumni, students and colleagues, and was a key driver in the establishment of D-box. She has also contributed to the communication and positioning of AHO's design education and student work, including through the AHO WORKS exhibitions, the AHO WORKS AWARDS and the AHO WORKS STUDIES book series.

She holds several board positions nationally and internationally, including with Cirrus and formerly with Cumulus.
