Mari Hvattum er professor i arkitekturhistorie og -teori, og underviser arkitekturhistorie og arkitekturteori på alle nivåer ved AHO. Hun er prosjektleder for det forskningsrådsfinansierte prosjektet Routes, Roads and Landscapes: aesthetic practices en route, 1750-2015.

Hvattum er sivilarkitekt fra NTH (1993) og har studert filosofi og estetikk ved Universitetet i Trondheim og Bergen. Hun har en MPhil fra University of Cambridge, U.K., og fullførte sin PhD fra samme institusjon i 1999. Hvattum har undervist arkitekturhistorie og -teori ved Architectural Association, London, Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow, University of Edinburgh, University of Strathclyde, og Central European University, Prague.

Hvattum er medlem av AHOs styre og Forskningsutvalget ved AHO.
