Course: Studio Production of Architecture. Powerplant NY
The project is located in East Village, Manhattan; in between East River, Con Edison Power Plant and the residential community Stuyvesant Town.
Different programming makes up the building complex; Office, housing, commercial, cinema, gym, kindergarten, recreational facilities and a sea food market / ferry terminal for the East River Ferry.
The ferry terminal and the building complex is separated by the East River Drive. A connection is made by an elevated pathway, stretching from the tip of the terminal and cutting through the building mass making shared spaces for the inhabitants above the ground level.
All of the roof area is tilted, either 10 or 45 degrees, to harvest most possible sun energy with its 15 000 m² of solar panels (30 000 m² in total, with the facade elements).
