Guidelines for the Establishment of a Regional Park for the Kujalleq Municipality

Kujalleq Municipality is the green and lush part of Greenland; where the culture is an interesting combination of traditional hunting practices of the Inuit’s and Norse farming practices. Along with the culture, the scenic views and well preserved ruins of the Vikings and Inuit’s are one of the main attractions.

There are a variety of interesting local products and activities offered in the region for the growing tourism industry by individuals and businesses. For an outsider it is hard to get an overview of the resources and offerings in the region because of fragmented information systems. Another dilemma in the municipality is that the big industries i.e. fish and fur factories are shrinking, where the locals were working, while new industries like the mining is growing and the income from it goes out of the municipality.

The intention of this project is to introduce the concept of Regional Parks for the community of Kujalleq Municipality, by give an impression of;
- what values it could create in the region,
- who could be the potential participants,
- what kind of boundaries could be set around the park and
- what kind of structures it could have

In its entirety this project can be seen as the first phase of the process of the establishment of a Regional Park.
