We are proposing a “smart” material system called the infrastructure that responds and adapts to its occupant’s use of an environment. As people move, interact, assemble, or act independently the infrastructure responds and accommodates action with an appropriate contextual architecture. We are interested in this integral connection between the occupant and the architectural material system within which they inhabit because we believe that it is more democratic, nearly anarchistic, truly open source, a perpetual evolution that acts in a scale of time necessary for contemporary living. The examples we show do not to suggest the actual form, but the potential for form through the complex interaction between an occupant and his/ her environment.
