Samle is a strategic board game similar to Chess. In order to win the game, you have to connect all of your pieces. The pawns have a smooth surface on the underside and a rubbery finish on top for better grip. The 36 pawns, divided into four colours, are placed on a square board. 2-4 players compete in connecting all of their colored pieces at ninety degree angles. First, the players have to choose a colour. This can be done by one player taking 2-4 pawns (depending on the number of players) in different colours and tossing them out on the table. Each player gets the colour that stops closest to them. The board has 36 depressions, the same as the number of pieces. When you have spread the pawns randomly across the board, the game can begin. To move a pawn, pick it up and exchange it with a pawn in front of, to the side or behind where it stood. You cannot move pawns diagonally. If a player has two pawns in a row, he can skip across one pawn with the other and advance two spaces instead of one. A move that has been made by one player cannot be reversed in the same round by an opponent. In order to win the game you have to connect all the pieces in your colour. Pieces standing diagonally across each other are not connected. Samle means “to group” in Norwegian.
