PhD Research Fellow in ‘Design, Youth & Community Participation through Social Media’

Application deadline: 20. October 2011

The Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) calls for applications for one full-time position as PhD research fellow for a three year period (1 January 2012 – 31 December 2014). The research fellow will be part of a large research project called delTA (meaning deltagelse; taking part).

The delTA project, funded by the Research Council of Norway, has as its core concerns the design and enactment of social media to increase youth participation in society. The project aims to design and develop social web services and applications. The solutions will help businesses with a social mission to create venues where youth and young adults between 15-25 years can express their civic engagement and community involvement, as well as political participation within society.

The PhD position is based at the Institute of Design and requires full attendance through the three years, including participation in the one year research education programme (research school, starting autumn 2012). Close supervision will also be a part of the wider study process. This position is within a wider research project that has practice-based research as its mode of inquiry. It requires participation and contribution to shared inquiry in the related research project as well as doctoral level individual research. The PhD student will collaborate with the project partners NRK, Plan, EddaMedia, Kongsvinger kommune, Opinion and SINTEF. An article-based doctoral thesis format is preferred. Close research collaboration will be supported.
