08-17.09 Hybrids: The social web in the physical world

In recent years we have witnessed the growth of a new breed of consumer products and services that are a hybrid of tangible atoms and online bits. This exhibition offers a selection of products, demonstrators, videos and art objects that highlight the ways in which online social media now are becoming an important part of the functionality, design and desirability of new products and services. As products and services become increasingly digital and disappear into screens, Hybrids exemplifies some alternative strategies, where some of the magic of the social web seep out into the physical world through tangible things. 

Hybrids is a collaboration between two research initiatives at AHO. The exhibition marks the end of RECORD - a research project investigating ways of using the social web in the design of new social services. Hybrids is also one of the outputs of HYBRID - an exploratory project investigating the connection between physical products and digital services.

Hybrids include projects from Really Interesting Group, Russell Davies, Nike / Apple, Newspaper Club, Poken, Linda Kostowski and Sasha Pohflepp, James Bridle, Einar Sneve Martinussen, Jon Olav Eikenes, Jørn Knutsen, Timo Arnall, Martin Nichols, Christer Carlsson and Lars Marcus Vedeler.
