Professor in architectural history and theory.
At present he is associated with the Norwegian Institute in Rome, where he heads the cultural project Roads From Rome.
Thomas Thiis-Evensen was born in 1946 and educated as an architect. He was appointed Professor at the University of Lund in 1989. Since 1992 he has taught as professor in architectural theory and history at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. In 1982 he was awarded a PhD in aesthetic theory at the University of Oslo with a dissertation on Archetype in Architecture.
He defined the principles underlying the architectural structures for the 1994 Winter Olympics at Lillehammer, and developed the guidelines for the Aesthetic Plan for the city of Oslo. From 1992 to 1997 he again defined aesthetic guidelines, this time for the restoration of the Royal Palace in Oslo, and in 2000 he developed the guidelines for the renovation of the center of Oslo for the upcoming celebration of the Norwegian Independence Centennial, in 2005.
Professor Thiis-Evensen has written and edited many books on architecture, and since the 1970s he has been an active participant in the public debate on the subject, in part with articles in the press, radio and television.
