Context: ‘Designing Innovation’ is a PhD project that is part of the D-side project at the Institute of Design, AHO.
Goal: To develop a further understanding of what type of design abilities provide better working conditions for development of innovations in product development.
Central research questions: How do design related activities benefit the innovation process? What types of design core competences are essential in order to enhance innovation activity?
Analytical frames: innovation theory, design ability, design driven innovation, design strategy, 'design thinking', design management.
Methods: Literature survey, case studies (design and business partners in the D-side project), semi-structured interviews, M-SWOT, protocol studies, internet surveys.
Deliverables: PhD thesis (3 journal articles, 4 conference papers).
Duration: 1 November 2009 – 31 October 2012.
Funding: The PhD position is funded by AHO. The D-side project is funded by the Research Council of Norway (NFR) BIA programme.
