Self-programming – guidelines

Students who have passed the foundation level studies can be granted to take a self programmed course. The students are permitted one self-programmed course within the studies.

A self programmed course is meant for advanced students with good background knowledge, given that head of the institute finds it justifiable to let the student carry this out. Head of the institute or the subject area leader has responsibility for evaluating the student’s academic standards and progression before a possible approval.

Self programming can in additional be limited by the institute’s current semester capacity. In case a self programming is not approved the head of the institute shall inform the student about the decision. A copy of the decision shall be sent to the Department of Academic Services.

As a main rule the possibility for self programming applies to studio courses. Self programming of an elective course can only take place in special circumstances: when the student undertakes his/her studio course out of town / aboard or the course concerns a theme that is particularly interesting to be enlightened.

Students, who wish to have self programming, shall register for the semester (on StudentWeb) within the fixed deadline. A provisional program approved and signed by the head of the institute as an agreement of intention, shall be ready within 3 weeks after the registration deadline. The provisional program shall contain schedule, scope, requirements of the submitted material and agreement about supervisor and censorship. The student shall submit a copy of the approved program to the Department of Academic Services within 3 weeks after the semester registration deadline.

The student works out a complete program in cooperation with supervisor based on the provisional program. The final program shall be approved and signed by the supervisor and the head of the institute / the subject area leader within 3 weeks after the semester has started. A copy of the complete program shall be submitted to the Department of Academic Services.

Review and censorship shall be agreed between supervisor and external examiner, and it shall be informed to the student latest 4 weeks before the review takes place.
