Grade Appeal Procedure

Academic Services sends e-mails to students with a failing grade with information about resubmission for non-written exams in basic level and the right to appeal grade with this procedure attached.

Basis for determination of the grade
A written request for the basis for determination of the grade must be submitted to Academic Services no later than two weeks from the date when grades are officially posted on StudentWeb.

The basis for the grade must be given within two weeks of receiving the request.

For studio courses a written evaluation by the subject instructor is used as the basis for determination of the grade (cf Regulations for master’s degree programs at AHO § 6-12)

Appeal
Students can submit a written appeal within three weeks of receiving the grade, or of receiving the basis for determination of the grade. The appeal letter may indicate why the student is appealing the grade and should be submitted to Academic Services. The appeal will be directly forwarded to the Appeal Committee or the Diploma Appeal Committee for new evaluation.

Following documents are to be sent to the Appeal Committee:

  • Exam answer sheets
  • Exam questions / requirements of the assignment
  • A list of syllabus
  • Basis for determination of the grade
  • A grade appeal letter by the student
  • An anonymous grade list with statistic
  • Access to the course on Moodle
  • A copy of the Law of Universities (universitetsloven) §5-2 and §5-3

Appeal process
The Appeals Committee has to make a decision within three weeks. They will render a new assessment based on the submitted materials. The student will be advised of the final decision in writing. The decision of the appeal committee is final and there is no right of appeal against it (cf the The Law of Universities and Colleges (universitets- og høgskoleloven) §5-3(6)). In case the sensors have prepared a basis for determination of the grade it will also be attached with the final decision. The student must be informed about the new date for the final decision in case the committee needs extra time. The Academic Services will keep a copy of the final decision.
