The Education Committee – guidelines

The Education Committee shall, on the basis of the strategies passed by the Board of AHO, work with measures for the further development of AHO’s education and quality assurance of this education.

The Education Committee has, in accordance with the Law of Universities § 9-1(2), been delegated authority from the board concerning program responsibility. The committee has the responsibility to evaluate the education as in accordance with the mandate of the committee and AHO’s procedure of evaluation. The committee appoints an Examiner’s Committee and an Appeal Committee c. f. guidelines for Appeal Committee and Regulations for Master’s Degree Programs at AHO. The committee is consultative for rector in revision of and development of new study programs, coordination of education programs and in the planning of semester educational programs.

The Education Committee at AHO shall consist of:

  • Leader (Rector, Pro-Rector or Academic Director)
  • 2 representatives from the Institute of Architecture
  • 1 representative from the Institute of Urbanism and Landscape
  • 2 representatives from the Institute of Design
  • 1 representative from the Institute of Form, Theory and History
  • 2 student representatives

The academic representatives are appointed by the board after nomination by head of the department. The term of the committee is in accordance with the board (4 years), but with start-up within a half year after the new board takes effect.

The Education Committee has the following main tasks:

Program responsibility

  • The Education Committee is a consultative authority and presents proposals to rector of approvals of  AHOs education plan and course programs including education plan for continuing education
  • The committee has program responsibility for all AHO’s master’s programs. The committee shall ensure that all programs have from the international perspective a high academic and pedagogic quality that prepares students for the tasks which can meet society’s needs within the academic field of AHO
  • The committee has, on the account of the organization of the school’s education programs, a special responsibility for AHO’s foundation level studies and to ensure that the best basis of further education in architect- and industrial design is provided at all times
  • The committee shall coordinate the collected education programs at the master’s level and ensure that the education programs have a suitable composition.
  • The Education committee has a particular responsibility for AHO’s diploma productions (Master’s level production). A diploma production from AHO shall meet the international level and shall be carried out within the prescribed time. Evaluation responsibility

  • The Education Committee has, in accordance with the agreed routines of evaluation, a shared responsibility for following up education evaluations (student evaluations, teacher evaluations, examiner evaluations). The Education Committee shall process results from the evaluations and ensure that measures will be carried into effect.
  • The committee shall monitor the education quality at AHO in general and take initiative to introduce measures to enhance quality. The committee shall handle and present the education part of the annual report about quality assurance before this is handled by the Board of AHO.

Responsibility for nomination

  • The committee nominates an Examiner Committee for Diploma
  • The committee nominates an Examiner Committee at each department after nomination from the respective departments
  • The committee nominates an Appeal Committee for Diploma and an Appeal Committee for appealing grades of examination at the respective departments

Coordination responsibility

The Education Committee is consultative for rector in the practical coordination of education programs and education semester plan

The committee has meetings 3 to 4 times per semester. Minutes for the Board and all employees are available at Stabfelles (common server for administrative and academic employees).
