The Institute of Architecture is responsible for tutoring, reseach and dissemination within architecture, with particular emphasis on the making of buildings, which is a core area in the Master of architecture program. The field includes architecture in a wide sense, and involves artistic, interpretive and exploratory dimensions that include, but also exceed the purely technical building. The Institute has a special responsibility to lead the initiated development program within "Research by Design", in line with the Government's architectural policy.
As part of this work AHO now announces a professorship in architecture with emphasis on R&D expertise and activity.
We seek a person with wide experience in architectural research at an international level. The position will include responsibility for leading and developing AHOs efforts in design-based research and its correponding PhD program.
At the same time, we seek a competent tutor with broad experience from an international teaching environment at the highest level. The position is a permanent appointment.
Duties and responsibilities
The new professor will have tasks both in research and tutoring, including special responsibility for developing the school's efforts in research-based tutoring. AHO has an ambition to become a leading provider of design based research (research by design) and the position will have the overall responsibility for developing and implementing strategies that can help bring the school to such a position. Mainly, this is this expected to happen through the creation of a "Center for Architecture and Tectonics", where experience and knowledge from practice and academia are brought together into a resource centre that can reveal new and relevant knowledge.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a degree in architecture at the master’s level, preferably with a PhD, as supervision of PhD candidates is included in the positions’ responsibilities. R&D expertise should be documented through extensive publication at a high international level. Tutoring skills should be documented with references from institutions at a high international level. With a leading responsibility within R&D, AHO expects good cooperation skills combined with willingness and ability to exercise leadership. Experience from academic management is an advantage. Applicants must have outstanding skills in written and oral English. There is no requirement for Norwegian language skills.
About the Institute of Architecture
Institute of Architecture has 20 permanent employees and 5 PhD students in addition to a number of part-time positions. The institute has the main responsibility for the school's teaching and research within the field of architecture with special emphasis on the making of buildings. The institute shall ensure that it at all times educates candidates with relevant skills at the highest level.

The position is remunerated on the Government scale at code 1013 Professor with salary rate 66 – 82 (NOK 518 000 – NOK 749 600). Normal conditions for state appointments apply to the position. 2 % of gross salary will be deducted as contribution to the National Retirement Fund. AHO has its own company health scheme.
It is a pronounced objective for State-funded institutions to achieve a balanced composition in relation to age, sex and cultural background, and arrangements will be made to facilitate persons with reduced functional capacity.
