The Institute of Urbanism and Landscape
The Institute of Urbanism and Landscape performs education, research and development within the fields of urbanism and landscape architecture. Forming and understanding physical surroundings is the focal point for the work done at the institute. The institute has a multi-disciplined staff and a broad approach to the field of urbanism. The activities at the institute include landscape architecture both as an integrated and as an independent discipline in relation to urbanism.
The educational activities at the institute range from basic teaching to diploma works, including a supplementary training program (master of urbanism) and a researcher education. The institute has a strong international orientation and an established network of cooperating institutions within practical planning, education and research.
The position
Qualifications and tasks
AHO's architectural education consists of a basic education spanning three years, providing basic academic skills to all AHO's architect students. The master's education in architecture and landscape architecture is to a larger degree specialised and R&D oriented, consisting of elective courses of an exploratory character, research based courses and courses focusing on artistic development. The position will be given a particular responsibility for developing the master's education in urbanism and urban design.
AHO is seeking an architect or landscape architect with post-doctoral competence in urbanism and urban design. We are looking for a person with a clear academic profile and competence on an internationally competitive level. Competence must be documented through publications, artistic development work and/or research on an international quality level. As this is mainly a teaching position, applicants should have teaching experience.
The applicant must have good cooperating abilities and a desire to form a constructive part of the development of our academic environment. Applicants must have a good command of the English language. Preferably, applicants should also have a command of the Norwegian or another Nordic language, but this is no condition as the master's level teaching is mostly conducted in English.
The position is announced as an associate professor position, and is considered a recruitment position. Applicants may request an assessment of whether their competence can be considered to be at a professoral level.
Application must be submitted by February 27 2009. Application material must include:
- 5 copies of application describing motivations, concise statement of research and teaching interests. Names and addresses (incl. e-mail) of at least three referees.
- 5 copies of applicant’s CV
- 5 certified copies of all qualifications
- 5 copies listing the candidates publications and/or works
- 3 copies of (max) 10 projects regarded by the applicant as most relevant to the advertised position. The material itself can be forwarded as late as one month after the application closure date March 27 2009. Photographic documentation is to be sent in one copy only.
The position is remunerated on the Government scale at code 1011 Associate Professor with salary rate 57 - 76 (NOK 435 700 – NOK 626 100). Normal condition for state appointments apply to the position. 2% of gross salary will be deducted as contribution to the National Retirement Fund. AHO has its own company health scheme.
It is a pronounced objective for State-funded institutions to achieve a balanced composition in relation to age, sex and cultural background, and arrangements will be made to facilitate persons with reduced functional capacity.
