Associate or Full Professor in Landscape Architecture

The Institute of Urbanism and Landscape at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) seeks a full time Professor or Associate Professor. Renewable visiting appointments may be considered. The school is especially interested in individuals who can contribute to the ongoing development of teaching and research in our Landscape Architecture programme. Faculty at the institute are typically involved in teaching in the undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate programmes.

Landscape Architecture at AHO
The main foci at the Institute of Urbanism and Landscape are the design and development of the built environment in general with particular emphases on urban design, planning and landscape architecture. The institute takes a broad and cross-disciplinary approach to these fields. In this context, Landscape Architecture is viewed as a discipline in its own right as well as an integral part of urbanism. The institute has a strong international profile, with a well established network of partner institutions within practice, teaching and R&D.

The Master Programme in Landscape Architecture was established in 2005 and accredited in 2009. The programme was developed in response to needs for a focus on the relationship between landscape and contemporary urban issues. One of AHO’s priorities is to add Landscape Ecology to its Landscape Architecture curriculum.

Required Qualifications and Responsibilities
Candidates should have a professional degree in Landscape Architecture, preferably a Ph.D and substantial research and/or professional experience. AHO will also accept applications from Architecs documenting high level of knowledge and professional practice in the field of Landscape Urbanism.

Furthermore, we seek applicants who are open to cooperative efforts and are able to communicate easily with colleagues and students. The successful candidate must show a willingness to contribute positively to the expanding academic milieu at the Institute of Urbanism and Landscape. The teaching language at AHO’s graduate courses is English. However, knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the development and expansion of the institute’s existing curriculum.
  • Teaching and advising students at both Master and PhD level
  • Taking an active part in the design and conduct of research projects in the fields of Urbanism, Landscape Urbanism and Landscape Architecture
  • Contributing to the institute’s international, multi-disciplinary research and teaching network.

  • 5 copies listing the applicant's submitted specimens of work
  • 3 copies of not more than 10 projects regarded by the applicant as most relevant to the advertised position. The material itself can be forwarded as late as one month after the application closure date, i.e. May 26th 2011. Photographic documentation need be sent in one copy only.

The position is remunerated on the Government scale at code 1011 Associate Professor with salary rate 57 - 76 (NOK 448 500 – NOK 643 500) or 1013 Professor, salary rate 67 – 84  (NOK 538 900 –806 200). Normal government regulations apply. i.e. 2 % of gross salary will be deducted as contribution to the National Retirement Fund.
