Sverre Fehn. The Pattern of Thoughts by Per Olaf Fjeld
Professor Per Olaf Fjelds new book on Sverre Fehn: SVERRE FEHN. THE PATTERN OF THOUGHTS was recently presented in New York by the Monacelli Press.
”In this book, it is my aim to bring to life his voice as an architect, educator and storyteller with the capacity to transform a personal narrative and its essence into physical space”, Per Olaf Fjeld writes in the introduction to the book.
The book is based on the writers long cooperation and multiple conversations with Fehn, as well as analysis of his many projects. The pages are illustrated by a large quantity of sketches, drawings and notes from the recently deceased architect's archives.
Per Olaf Fjelds first book on Fehn, The thought of Construction was published on Riizzoli, New York in 1983. In the new book, Fjeld gived a chronological listing of Fehns projects, illustrated with intentional sketches, drawings and photos. However, the unique value this book inhabits lies in how Fjeld through quotations from 35 years of conversations and lectures allows Fehn himself to comment on his work, thoughs and ideas.
Sverre Fehn, who passed away earlier this year, is remarkably present in this beautiful, well-written and reflected book.
The book was recently presented at The Scandinavian House in New York.
The book, which is published on the Monacelli Press, has been well received by the international public, and will be reviewed in the next issue of the Norwegian architecture magazine Arkitektur N.
