Success with recycling machine
When the music festival Øyafestivalen was held in Oslo earlier in August, the festival audience could make use of a specially designed recycling installation designed by two industrial design students from AHO.
Øyafestivalen is one of Norways biggest music festivals, held in the centre of Oslo, with more than 60,00 visitors. the festival has always had a strong focus on sustainability and recycling.
The RECYCLOMAT was opened during the festival on Thursday 12. August, with both City Council Leader Stian Berger Røsland and Commissioner for Environment and Transport Jøran Kallmyr present.

Automatic recycling
RECYCLOMAT is a recycling installation which in addition to the obvious fuction of being a waste bin, also makes use of new technology, interaction design and old-fashioned pin-ball-aesthetics to create awareness and a commitment to sorting and recycling.
As you put waste in the various compartments, a red ball to move upward until it finally takes a pin ball-like round in the installation. In addition, when used, the RECYCLOMAT posts little messages on small diplays, converying messages or factual information like "Norwegians every year throws out more than 300,000 tons fully edible food. Eat up! "And" Congratulations! You help the buses forward! ".

The project was nominated for five awards during this springs AHO WORKS, including Prize for innovation, Prize for interaction, Prize for sustainability in design, Prize for complexity and holistic approach and the Accenture Award for Innovation in User-oriented Design and Technology.
"Recycled" in new festivals
The realisation of the RECYCLOMAT has been a collaboration between AHO, Oslo Munincipality, the Øya festival and Future cities, with the help of Intelligent Agent and the Waste Management Authority in Oslo. The project is also supported by the Ministry of Environment. The installation will now be used in many other festivals, in both Trondheim, Oslo and Stavanger.
