Research rewarded with success

As the result of a targeted effort, the research environment at AHOs Institute of Design can point to several successes in 2010, such as peer reviewed journal publications, large research grants and partnerships with industry.

Research grants
Today it became known that two research projects from AHO have been granted up to 10 million NOK each from the Norwegian Research Councils VERDICT program. The projects are carried out in collaboration with both established research institutions and private compaties.

Peer-rewieved articles
This spring, three peer rewieved articles has been published as a result of research activity at the Institute of design:

The article is an outcome of the now finished Touch project at IDE, and can be read here.

The article is an outcome of the Record Project and can be read here

  • Judith Gloppen: "Service Design Leadership" in Design Research Journal 1/2010, pages 42-48.

The article is an outcome of the AT.ONE project, and the full article is available through the AHO Library system Bibsys.

- Our most recent publications are the result of large research projects, says research coordinator at IDE, professor Andrew Morrison. - Importantly, these are also PhD publications that are evidence of how our PhD programme with article based theses is succeeding. A 'research by design' view is also central as is our commitment to peer reviewed and international publications. We are happy to be a part of the community of design research excellence promoted by the International Journal of Design, he continues.

In addition, IDE currently has three more articles under review.

Form Akademisk on Research by Design
In June, a special isssue on 'Research by Design' is to be published in Form Akademisk, guest edited by professor Andrew Morrison. - The aim of this special issue is to highlight investments in and critical practices of research by design at IDE, and AHO more widely. A range of project based development and analysis is presented. The journal is also an open access one that allows wide web connections.

- As an Institute of Design, we have specifically innovated with video in two of these articles. This is part of our ongoing research and experimentation into multimodal research rhetoric, Morrison concludes.
