Emphasizes "Research by Design"
The Scandinavian design research journal FORMakademisk recently published a special issue on Research by Design, guest edited by professors Andrew Morrison and Birger Sevaldson, both from the Institute of Design at AHO.
FORMakademisk is a new Norwegian/Scandinavian design research journal with emphasis on Research by Design. The journal is published on the Open Journal System and is ratet level 1 (lowest level of two levels) in the Norwegian academic publication rating system. All articles are internationally peer reviewed.
In their introduction to the issue, the editors promises a look into ”a growing domain of design research that takes up relations between practice and theory that are pertinent for inquiry in the interdisciplinary approaches and frameworks that are often central to research in design”.
The collection of articles show wide range of established and emerging design research areas, methods and analyses, indicating ”how far design research has moved from earlier locations in craft traditions and historical analyses and characterisations and perspectives lodged in industrial design. These views do still matter, but they are now part of the changing profession of design and a burgeoning body of international research”.
The majority of the peer reviewed articles in the issue are contributed by design researchers from AHO, who in some way or other is engaged in Research by Design:
