Design research exhibited in Barcelona
A set of specially designed sunglasses, created as part of a research project at AHO, is currently on diplay as part of the exhibition Fabrication Laboratory at the museum Disseny Hub Barcelona.
The sunglasses, made of nylon using SLS technology, was designed as part of developing a design methodology, entitled "Exploring possibilities of customization based on additive manufacturing technology".

The project has been conducted by former student and teacher at AHO Kathinka Bryn Bene (now Geriljaworks), and provided as a field study to associate professor Steinar Killis PhD thesis in the field of additive manufacturing. Killi has discussed the field study in the article "Custom design. More than custom to fit!" in the anthology Virtual modeling and rapid manufacturing, advanced research in virutal and rapid prototyping (2007).

The idea of the project is that the sunglasses using 3D technology can be designed and customized to the users requirements. This will provide an added value for the customer, that he or she is willing to pay for.
The exhibition Fabrication Laboratory (06/15/2010 to 05/29/2011) present new scenarios in 3D design and production. Through exhibitions, workshops, lectures and real-time production laboratories, the exhibition not only provides a complete overview of the many digital 3D production techniques that exist, but also discuss the future of conventional production technology.
Disseny Hub Barcelona is both a museum, science center and laboratory, run by the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona. The Centre aims to promote knowledge, understanding and appropriate use of design.
