Came 2nd with wood art
AHO-students Mariel Bacigalupe and Stephanie Fell came 2nd in the design competition Bergen Wood, held in conjunction with the Bergen International Wood Festival earlier this month.
Celebrating wood
Bergen International Wood Festival (BIWF) is focusing on structures made from wood, and the material’s constructive and moulding qualities. As part of this focus they arrange a competition in experimental construction of spatial wooden structures. Designers, architects and artists from all over the world are invited to a grand competition in Bergen, which this year lasted from 30 May to 3 June 2010.
Competed with student project
The 2nd place in the competition went to Mariel Bacigalupe and Stephanie Fell for their construction "Ripples", which also has been their main project in their studies this spring. The students have participated in the course "Performance Oriented Design: Wood Responsive Architecture" with adjunct professor Michael Hensel, where the focus has been experimenting with the qualities and possibilities wood embodies.
Together with the other students on the course, the students received the Prize for excellence in the use of wood in architecture during AHO Works on June 10th.
