AHO-teachers on sustainability course

The sustainability perspective in architecture is becoming increasingly important, and is emphasized in the Norwegian government's architectural policy as well as in AHOs strategy. Now, AHOs teachers get to brush up their knowledge on the field.

In the spring of 2010, 15 architecture teachers from AHO participate in a post-graduate course in passive-engineering. The course is arranged in cooperation with NTNU, SINTEF Enova and the Norwegian State Housing Bank.

- The request for cooperation from course administrator Inger Andresen at NTNU was a lucky match to the plans of AHOs Institute of Architecture, says head of institute Børre Skodvin. - The majority of the faculty has participated, and will pass on their new-found knowledge in both undergraduate and graduate classes. AHO has received widespread recognition for taking such a definite initiative for capacity building.

Associate professor Marius Nygaard has been a driving force and responsible from AHO. -The speakers come from the leading Norwegian and international passive house-environments. They say they have rarely met such an active participant group with such high professional level. For the participants, the highlight was probably to  meet the Austrian architect Walter Uterrainer. He showed through his own projects how we can work consciously with architecture when the passive-house level is a criterion. Now we have to follow up the next phase where teams will develop projects and test them with energy calculations.
