Prizes to AHO transport design
Two industrial design students from AHO, Kristian Sørlie and Viliam Zilinek has been awarded 1st and 3rd prize in an international design competition held by the austrial powertrain firm AVL.
AVL, or Anstalt für Verbrennungskraftmaschinen List, is an Austrian-based automotive consulting firm as well as an independent research institute. It is the largest privately owned company for the development of powertrain systems with internal combustion engines as well as instrumentation and test systems.
Recently, AVL developed a special measurement device for on road vehicle tests. This measurement device fits in a passenger-car trailer, for which, students all around Europe was challenged to design the shell.
The product had to take into considerations certain spesifications like size, cooling devices, the use of materials, easy manufacuring and the use of AVLs colours and logo.
Design studentes from all over Europe was invited to participate in the competition, where Kristian Sørlie won and Viliam Zilinek now may receive the 3rd prize and an amount of €300 for his design proposal.
As the winner of the competition, Kristian Sørlie receives €800. In addition, the prize includes the opportunity to realize his design proposal, including building an 1:1 scale model of the trailer as well as the final glassfiber-reinforced plastic shell. The work is to be conducted in cooperation with AVLs engineers in Graz, Austria over a period of several weeks. For this work the winner also is offered an extra €2000.
Altough happy for the opportunity, Kristian Sørlie has chosen not to take on the work, as he has recently started on his final diploma semester at AHO.
AHOs congratulations to the prize winners!!
