The book is an anthology comprised of nine texts, and attempts to illuminate the wide-ranging work of Norberg-Schulz and investigate its current significance for architecture. By situating Norberg-Schulz's contribution in a broad, cultural and architectural context, the texts in the book represent a gamut of theoretical points of view. The focus remains, however, on the three issues to which Norberg-Schulz himself was dedicated: the understanding, the history, and the publication of architecture.

The book is edited by Gro Lauvland, Mari Hvattum and Karl Otto Ellefsen. Other contributors to the book is Tordis Arrhenius, Gordon Hølmebakk, Jorge Otero-Pailos, Alberto-Pérez-Goméz and Panayotis Tournikiotis.

Former professor an rector at AHO, Christian Norberg-Schulz (1926-2000) was both a thinker and an architect. His contribution was international, and his books are studied, discussed and cited globally. In order to understand the meaning of architecture and place in our time, he established a theoretical language which retains its relevance today. Norberg-Schulz's work both as a practitioner, a historian and a theorist continues to inspire and provoke, and has attracted renewed attention in recent years.
