Urban Salong: Cities in the South, Cities in the North
AHOs Centre for Urban research each month arranges a "Urban Salon", and invites researchers and professionals within the fields of city development and urban planning. This month's topic is "Cities in the South, Cities in the North".
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published a strategy for involvement in what used to be called “Third World Cities”.
AHO is working together with NTNU and UMB to develop research projects and new knowledge in this field. In projects in East Africa our universities are cooperating with universities in Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Kampala and Addis Ababa.
European cities are undergoing important transformations that are both shared with cities in the South and at the same time unique. African cities in particular are experiencing rapid and critical changes. The question to be discussed at this Salong are how can urban research provide a useful and theoretical engaging discourse that addresses these transformative processes in ways that help us better understand both the global and local challenges cities in the 21st century face.
